Their defeat resulted in the degeneration of their culture and eventually led to the forsaking of the knowledge of their former nobility.

The present invention relates to a method of and to apparatus for calculating the position of a moving member in a direction perpendicular to the moving direction.
An example of such a moving member is a rotor disc with respect to which an actuator can cause the rotor disc to rotate about an axis, as is the case in most conventional hard disc drives. The position of the rotor disc is determined, for example, by a so-called closed loop encoder, i.e. an arrangement with light sources and detectors which measure the position in a number of different directions and calculates the position from the differences between the detected light intensities.
The light source/detector pairs can be separated by a distance of a few wavelengths, as a result of which highly accurate position determination becomes possible. It is a further disadvantage of known arrangements that, in order to prevent the moving member from slipping relative to the encoder, the encoder is mounted on a carrier which is fixedly connected to the moving member. Thus, because of a common, rigid connection, there is a permanent axial displacement which depends on the amount of load on the moving member. The axial displacement may be compensated for by an adjustment of the light sources and detectors, such that there is a constant light intensity at a given point.

The Land Between is a card battler game with the odd twist that in my opinion is absolutely unique. It adopts the roleplay game mechanic a while back and does so with aplomb.
