‘Napoleon Dynamite Live!’ is bringing its sweet show to Texas Theater

The fun starts with a full screening of the 2004 movie adopted by a dialogue with cast members Jon Heder (Napoleon), Efren Ramirez (Pedro) and Jon Gries (Uncle Rico).

Where else however a Napoleon Dynamite occasion do it’s important to deliver your own tater tots?

The event is “Napoleon Dynamite Live!” on the Texas Theatre on April 1, 2023.

The fun starts with a full screening of Napoleon Dynamite (2004) followed by a moderated dialogue from fan-favorite cast members Jon Heder (Napoleon), Efren Ramirez (Pedro) and Jon Gries (Uncle Rico).

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.

Set in Idaho, the independent film stars Heder in the role of Napoleon, a socially awkward high school student, alongside with his quirky immigrant friend, Pedro, and a weird family led by Uncle Rico.

Napoleon Dynamite started with a single investment of $400,000 from a friend of the film’s writer and producer, Jared Hess. It premiered on the 2004 Sundance Film Festival, sold to Fox Searchlight Studios and have become a cult classic loaded with quotable lines.

The dialogue is ideal for social media memes and GIFs. We’ve all seen images of Uncle Rico, who claimed he may throw a football over a mountain, wearing a Dallas Cowboys jersey. There’s even a fan-generated video with Jerry Jones presenting him a jersey. Also, it’s not that difficult to find a Vote for Pedro T-shirt. And we’ve seen Napoleon’s sweet dance scene on YouTube countless times.

“Everything within the film is so autobiographical,” Hess told Rolling Stone in 2014. “I grew up in a household of six boys in Preston, Idaho (the place the film was shot) and the character of Napoleon was a hybrid of all essentially the most nerdy and awkward parts of me and my brothers rising up.”

No word on whether Texas Theater will have tots (Napoleon’s snack of alternative) or 1% milk available in the concession area.
