By Kyle Salazar, Founder and Editor, Gamasutra: The developers of Warheart have spoken out against Ubisoft’s decision to remove its exclusivity window for their game. You can read their statement in full at Gamasutra and you can also listen to GDC’s Developer Update about the situation on the Game Developers Conference’s website. I spoke with Warheart developer Big Red Button Games co-founder Jules Robins and asked him to detail why he thinks Ubisoft’s decision to allow players to download the game at no cost on December 17th is disappointing.
“We were incredibly excited when we discovered that the entire playerbase would be free to play over two weeks prior to the release of the game,” he said. “We anticipated becoming one of the top free-to-play game on Steam by January 2017, and we had spent this amount of time to get it ready and with all of the new features in and we couldn’t go out without a bang.”
