Elden Ring is a game which was announced for PS4 and Xbox One in Japan in September last year and released worldwide in December. I was given a copy to check out for the PS4 a few days ago and, while I have spent more time in other action RPG games, I must say that Elden Ring was my favourite from the get go. There are some quick but steep steps and a fair number of grinds in between, but you know what? It doesn’t feel that way. There are all the grinding that I expected. Elden Ring is an action RPG that is great for short, impulse play but can also give you a fantastic view of the story.

The Story

Elden Ring (where the character is named Caeser) is a young man in a place which is called the Lands Between. He is brought up by his sister to prepare for the great new war which will come. The player is given a list of prospects and can sort it according to height, weight, etc. The game will then focus on which person you think can provide the best results in the long run. After completing a lot of surveys and random story events, Caeser is eventually given a call for a job at the Hember Restaurant. The job description states that he must bring 500 ingredients that are worth 100,000 gold to the owner of the place. Some people hear the story and decide that the job is too hard, but you know what? It’s not. It’s completely achievable, but it takes a lot of work and grinding. When you’re ready, then you know that you’re ready. Before long you are ready to find out what really happens in the world.

Humble Ending

As the title suggests, there is a Humble ending and, while there is a lot of content, and even more side quests, I can’t recommend anyone skip this. This does not really fit in with the rest of the game, but it is there. The Humble ending is a symbolic ending that places things in perspective. It is free, but requires an internet connection and is the only way you can access it. It is a great idea, but it would have been better if it wasn’t so hard to find. It was probably worth the effort, though. It’s a little bit of a sad ending for everyone who decides to try and find it.
