NOTE

These desktop versions of AutoCAD cannot be used to create drawings or blockouts. They use graphic tablet technology to create drawings directly on the screen. For that reason, they can only be used with the AutoCAD Drawing client.

The History of AutoCAD

The history of AutoCAD is relatively short: it has had only seven principal releases since its initial release, and the latest (AutoCAD 2015) had only three years of active development. AutoCAD went through two major revisions in the 1980s, and then several more minor revisions in the early 1990s. This was followed by a hiatus until 2002, when AutoCAD 2007 was introduced. AutoCAD 2017 is the latest major release, and the software that released AutoCAD 2015 is itself a minor version, AutoCAD 2016. AutoCAD 2018 is the most recent release, which supports graphics tablets. This chapter is designed to cover AutoCAD 2011 and newer. For a more complete history of AutoCAD, see The History of AutoCAD (From Autodesk’s Website).

The Cost of AutoCAD

The cost of AutoCAD is generally based on the number of users. For a single user license (typically an employee of an organization), the annual license price is about $1,200 (see Figure 25-1). However, some organizations share licenses and are billed on a time-based usage basis. For example, a USER license for a company might cost $300 per month.

Figure 25-1. The price of AutoCAD 2011 varies depending on how many users are using it and what features they are using. A single user price is about $1,200 per year, and a multi-user price is about $3,000.

For enterprise users, the cost of AutoCAD includes any additional users and any upgrades. For example, if you need to purchase a license for one more user, you have to pay for another license.

More-powerful versions of AutoCAD, such as AutoCAD LT, typically cost more, and even licenses for multiple users can be more expensive, as shown in Table 25-1.

AutoCAD

AutoCAD Crack +

AutoCAD is used in numerous industries. The largest market share for AutoCAD, which has around 42.5 million users, is in the U.S. alone. The US building industry alone uses around 1.5 million units of AutoCAD in their day-to-day work. In addition, AutoCAD is used by architects, engineers, drafters, construction workers, and engineers. In April 2018, Autodesk reported that it now had 40% more active AutoCAD users than in 2017.

Licensing

AutoCAD’s user interface has been largely free of ads since AutoCAD 2002, which is the most recent version released with the exception of the AutoCAD Architecture 2016 and 2017 suites. Autodesk’s nominal fees are collected from users of the software and from the sale of add-ons and AutoCAD training videos.

In 2010, AutoCAD was the third most popular program that requires a license after Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop.

Since 2003, AutoCAD has been sold only via the AutoCAD Marketplace and since AutoCAD 2014, only via the AutoCAD Online Store. These stores have since been replaced by the Applications Store for AutoCAD 2016 and 2017.

The product is available on the Windows, Mac and Linux platform. AutoCAD’s X,Y,Z, and A licenses are completely free of charge for open-source users of AutoCAD.

There are also versions of AutoCAD for use on some mobile devices, including the iPad, the Microsoft Surface, and Android and other cellphones.

The graphical user interface is available for free for Windows. The freeware version of AutoCAD only includes the core product, while the rest of the available features require a paid registration.

AutoCAD Basic was available as freeware for the first ten years, but was later discontinued.

What’s New In?

Add and organize content with dynamic marks and track changes with the Markup Assistant. Dynamic marks can be applied to drawing components and imported content, so you can capture an accurate representation of the design while incorporating the final user information. (video: 1:33 min.)

Drafting Tools

Clamp tool:

Use the Clamp tool to temporarily change a line to a closed polyline or surface, creating a shape that matches another shape on the model. Use Clamp to get an accurate representation of an object with a variable shape or when you want to temporarily fix the draft’s position. (video: 1:32 min.)

Freeform tool:

See the freedom that’s available to you in the Drafting tab. Open any path, split it, and quickly drag and reorder nodes as you design. (video: 2:38 min.)

Direct tool:

With a single command, you can change the width of a line segment. Direct the path to a start point or end point on a drawing or model. Use the direct tool to find the best points on your design and create more accurate lines. (video: 2:14 min.)

Extend tool:

The Extend tool has been added to the Drafting tab and lets you easily extend and modify line or polyline segments. (video: 1:30 min.)

Improved sheet management

The Sheet Management options have been improved:

There are new commands to manage the view of a sheet. All sheets are visible in the Drafting tab and the Sheet Management menu. View the sheet as a plan, section, elevation, and so on. Control which page is the current view for a sheet with new commands. (video: 1:18 min.)

Optimize the PDFs that are produced

With new feature, optimize the PDFs that are produced by your document workflow, and use the optimized PDFs in AutoCAD as soon as they are generated. (video: 1:35 min.)

Summary

There are many new features in AutoCAD 2023 to help you get the most out of your design experience. Now, you have more time to focus on your design and content. These features are designed to be easy to use, but powerful. So, it’s time to jump in and try them out. Happy designing!
