This is a plug-in design for foobar2000. It was written
to add a very good and high quality bass expansion effect.
This plug-in has been specially designed to work with
your bass amp, club or home studio system and give you
the same bass sound as if you were in a club or home
studio.
IMPORTANT: If you use this plug-in in combination
with the plugin Advanced Limiter, you MUST set it to
Off. This will prevent bass distortion. Use “off” at
all times if you are not sure about the quality of your
amp.
The Xbass plug-in operates by using a low
impedance emulated subwoofer (marked as “DSP” on the
foobar2000 interface). It has a subwoofer which can
be set to a low impedance, a high impedance or a
standard impedance.
If you use a club or home studio setup, you will
need to get a suitable bass expansion unit. We assume
that the settings are already set up and ready for
the Xbass plug-in to use.
It has two main effects: bass expansion and
instantiation.
If you turn on the bass expansion and instantiation
options the plug-in is designed to work
without using any of the inputs on the bass amp.
The bass expansion, in fact, is completely independant
from the input signals. The only thing that is
dependent on the bass expansion effect is the output
signal.
If you do not have a bass amp, you can turn on the
bass expansion effect but this is optional.
Bass Expansion
Bass expansion adds a subwoofer effect to the main
(regular) bass section. A subwoofer is (in theory at
least) a high-impedance amplifier mounted
directly in the wall behind the speakers.
When the subwoofer is mounted in this way, there is
no need to turn it up as high as a regular amplifier
and the bass will sound quieter. With a standard
subwoofer this will mean that you will hear a bass
signal which isn’t as loud. With a subwoofer not
mounted in this way, you could use it as a regular
part of your system without problems.

It works by sending the single microphone to 2 dt440 (ds44) cards which then send it into a dsp (e.g. dsp44 with pannning mode) to split into it into 2 mono channels.
If you then split these channels back into stereo they still have a bass channel that is approx. a quarter dB lower than each of the 2 channels.
If you then downsample each of these channels to half the sampling rate, then you get what in theory will be a 5.1.
With filtering, it removes low frequency sounds between 20hz and 100hz and high frequency sounds from 300hz to 15khz.

Extract the contents of the archive to the foobar2k/Tools/xbass folder
You may have to register foobar2k for full access to the ui. But it still is free.
Compatibility:
It should work with all foobar2k 4.02 and higher versions.
The special mode for you that is that it has a volume slider, and you can set the volume for foobar and foo.
*The original author has since deprecated the standalone version. It works fine if you make a *lib folder in your foobar2k install and put foo dsp xbass.dll in it.
Support:
It is not currently supported by the developer. Please use the standard foobar2k installer and the 3rd party installers.

The tool allows to play any type of music with timbres add-ons,
e.g. Bass, MPC, EDM, EDC, Hardcore and Pianos.
You can even use other tools as preamps.
Both preamps are optional.
The tool allows the user to alter the overdrive gain,
make the effect(s) go completely inaudible or softly,
change a lot of other parameters and of course choose the output.
The settings are saved and loaded from registry.
For the short-time the effect is ON by default.
You can select also the no-effect version,
when you only hear the music.
All settings are saved to the registry.
