The middle place on 3-place 4-port solenoid valves is the place that the valve rests in with each solenoids de-energized. On manual valves the middle position is transitional and is usually unused. Closed middle solenoid valves are used to guarantee that no movement takes place upon power failure (although a small amount of pressure will probably be misplaced in transition). The closed center manual valve makes no change in circuit direction in the middle position. “P” blocked center in either a manual or solenoid valve is often used for decoupling of palletized double performing techniques.
