Let’s say I have an IEnumerable and would like to choose a random element. I thought using the built-in Random() function would solve my problem. Unfortunately, I read on the MSDN site that this means the sequence must be of constant length. This is bad for me, since I want to randomly choose a collection of arbitrary length.
I am aware of the usage of a Random(ICollection) extension method, but I don’t think this would be the correct approach, since I am trying to make my class random too.
A few approaches I’ve thought of would be to use either a loop/generator to construct the needed number of random elements using an index variable, or the dreaded Parallel.For and then creating a random number generator in there. I’d rather not use LINQ, as this was suggested as an alternative to a solution I tried to use and, although it works, I’d like to learn a different solution.A:
