Why do int(“02”) and str(“02”).lower() return 2 and 02 respectively? I am really not understanding this: In theory I can just get the bytes from str(“02”), or I can convert any number to a string as well as str() does by itself.

Because those methods return the original input value and what it was converted to.

You can get bytes from strings using bytes:
>>> bytes(“02”)

or, if you want a string:
>>> “”.join(bytes(“02”))

or you can create a tuple, e.g.

but there’s no need for all that. If you just want the result, you can use int(bytes(“02”)), and if you want to know what the bytes are, you can just print bytes(“02”). The parentheses aren’t necessary.
